Back to Square One....

All of us are, actually. P is back from Serbia, almost his second home, the lady who stays with us is back from a break, the roads of Shiradi Ghats are back to being pathetic and after a break for Manjanna's wedding etc, I too am back to the grind. P as usual has started fretting about his work etc. I think I can never understand his frustration fully and he thinks I never back him wholeheartedly. But I do wish he gets what he wants!

Manjanna's wedding....I should say it was quite a simple affair. The bride's cousin was shocked to see hardly anybody in groom's place a day before the wedding. It seems they were 150! Even we thought we were too less but couldn't help it anyway. The number of cousins attending the weddings has definitely reduced over the years and aunts(uncles' wives I mean) are also a rare sight. But I was happy to see whoever came. My uncle who's battling cancer came and he looked as cheerful as ever. I feel a tear or two inside me whenever I see him but I don't know what it is for - for the fact that he was so close to deathbed recently or that he's fighting it out so bravely and smilingly. It seems one of his twin daugheters is going to deliver twins!!

I was shocked to see the husband of my cousin who passed away last year coming in a day earlier. He came with one of my uncles and I could see some faces hardening around. Nobody has solved the mystery of the death so far but I always felt her husband should've helped her better. He talked to me also and I din't know how to respond. I was feeling guilty even while smiling at him. Had she been around, I think my uncle's house would've been a different place altogether. She doesn't know how her death has changed others' lives.

So finally Manjanna is a married man! His bride is quite young and good looking and they look happy. One thing that hasn't changed on Manjanna's face is that naughty look. He always looked as if he was contemplating the next prank. I remember some of them so well even now! The old house in Nagare had an attic which used to house all the exotic things that Uncle G used to bring from abroad - a big weird flask, a two-in-one tape recorder, a fancy torch etc. Also, as an additional attraction for me, there were also old comics, magazines etc. It was all fine until one day Manjanna said there was some 'Brihmarakshasa' up there. I had no idea what it looked like but definitely knew it would be fearsome. I had heard some noices up there some time and Manjanna was sure they were of the deamon and he gave colourful descriptions of its capabilities. After that, I was never bold enough to go there alone. I always made sure one my cousins was present at least at the foot of the ladder and jumped at every cat that came there. Of course I grew out of that in time, yet....

Hmm....have to rush to take the next set of fresher-interviews. It's the first time for me too and I find it harder than them.
